How and Why to Incorporate Videos Into Your Marketing Strategy

Written by Olivia McQuarrie | Feb 28, 2023 2:00:00 PM

Video is becoming a crucial component of content marketing. It already makes up a huge percentage of content consumed by individuals on a daily basis. According to YouTube, people watch over a billion hours of video content on the site every day. Naturally, content marketers are making use of this interest in their marketing strategies. But it can be hard to know how to stand out in the sea of video content being made.

This is where we can help.

Back to the Basics

Before we dig into how to incorporate video into your marketing strategy successfully, we need to look at why video is such an effective tool for marketers. Here are a few reasons why videos are so useful:

  • They are an easy way to quickly convey information. According to a study by the Management Information Systems Research Centre, people can process and retain visuals 60,000 times better than they can process written text.
  • Since videos grab and hold attention much more effectively than text alone, potential leads tend to remain on webpages with video content longer than those without video.
  • They are an excellent way to increase your browser ranking. While a search engine can’t search for keywords within an audio file, an embedded video can be supplied with alternate text, which can be scanned for keywords to boost your SEO ranking.
  • According to the Digital Marketing Institute, search engines rank video as high quality content. For this reason, Google often features videos directly below the featured snippet on the first page of search results.

Next Steps

Now that we’ve looked at why videos are so effective for digital marketers, let’s turn to how you can practically incorporate videos into your marketing strategy.

First, select a third party site to host your video. Hosting your video on a third party site means you can always remove the page from your website without affecting any external links to the video. We recommend video hosting platforms like YouTube or Vimeo.

When your video is live on your site of choice, you can embed your video in your blog post using an embed link. Embed links will work from both YouTube and Vimeo, but they will look a little different depending on which site you use. To see examples of embed codes from each site, check out these.

Building your Video Content Strategy

Now that we’ve looked at ways to include video content in your existing marketing strategy, you’re ready to create video content! There are lots of types of videos that can be useful to digital marketers. For example, there are company culture videos, explainer videos, customer testimonials, and product demo videos. If you aren’t sure which one would work best for your marketing needs, check out these examples of some of the different kinds of videos VidOps has created.
